    Summary

    In 2022, the program is designed to grant funds on a competitive basis to support training for law enforcement officers in one of the following topic areas:

    • Use of force and de-escalation training (including funding for training classes and equipment/supplies to be used for training in these priority areas),
    • Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training,
    • Training to support mental health, and
    • School Safety – Priority will be given to applications that propose law enforcement training programs/projects to improve school safety within jurisdictions.
     

    History of Funding

    Approximately $15,000,000 was available in total funding in 2021.

    Additional Information

    Grant funds cannot be used for:

    • incentives
    • the purchase of vehicles,
    • overall agency supplies,
    • construction projects
    • administrative overhead

  • Eligibility Details

    Applicants are limited to units of local government and state law enforcement agencies that operate within Georgia for law enforcement training.

    For School Safety, eligible recipients include state and local law enforcement agencies as well as school systems that operate independent police departments. School systems that do not operate independent police departments may partner with a police department or sheriff's office.

    Deadline Details

    All applications were to be submitted by 5:00 PM on August 15, 2022. A similar deadline is anticipated, annually. Link for online submissions:

    Award Details

    Approximately $4,500,000 is available in total funding in 2022. Award amounts vary based on scope and size of project. Project period is from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023. Cost sharing/matching is not required.
