Summary

The ILETSB provides grants for the purchase or lease of in-car video cameras for use in law enforcement vehicles; officer-worn body cameras for law enforcement officers, data storage costs related to officer-worn cameras, and training for law enforcement officers in the operation of the cameras.
History of Funding

A total of $30,000,000 was available in 2025.
A total of $15,000,000 was available in Spring 2024.
A total of $33,000,000 was available in 2023.

Additional Information

Reimbursement is the standard method of award payment; however advance payment or a working capital advance payment may be authorized upon the submission of a supplemental application and ILETSB approval. The process for making this application is outlined in the corresponding Policies and Procedures, found in the Web Links section below.
Eligibility Details

Eligible applicants are Illinois law enforcement agencies of municipalities, counties, park districts, public universities, and all units of Illinois local government. A full list of eligible applicants is available to view at: https://www.ptb.illinois.gov/media/1380/gatagranteeid-2-2019.pdf.
Deadline Details

Applications are to be submitted by December 31, 2025. Similar deadlines are anticipated annually. There may be a cycle opening in Spring 2026. Check program page for updates.
Award Details

A total of $55,000,000 is available in 2026. Individual award amounts may be up to $3,000,000. Requests will vary based on the camera purchases made by each department. There is no match requirement. In 2025, ILETSB placed the following caps on units:
- Officer-worn Body Cameras - Up to $850 per unit.
- In-car (Dash) Cameras - Up to $5,750 per unit.
Grantees may request payment by advance funding, reimbursement, or working capital advance payment from the ILETSB Camera Grant Program.
