    Summary

    The ILETSB provides grants for the purchase or lease of in-car video cameras for use in law enforcement vehicles; officer-worn body cameras for law enforcement officers, data storage costs related to officer-worn cameras, and training for law enforcement officers in the operation of the cameras.

     

    History of Funding

    A total of $30,000,000 was available in 2025.

    A total of $15,000,000 was available in Spring 2024.

    A total of $33,000,000 was available in 2023.

    Additional Information

    Reimbursement is the standard method of award payment; however advance payment or a working capital advance payment may be authorized upon the submission of a supplemental application and ILETSB approval.   • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants are Illinois law enforcement agencies of municipalities, counties, park districts, public universities, and all units of Illinois local government. A full list of eligible applicants is available to view at: https://www.ptb.illinois.gov/media/1380/gatagranteeid-2-2019.pdf.

    Deadline Details

    Applications are to be submitted by December 31, 2025. Similar deadlines are anticipated annually. There may be a cycle opening in Spring 2026. Check program page for updates.

    Award Details

    A total of $55,000,000 is available in 2026. Individual award amounts may be up to $3,000,000. Requests will vary based on the camera purchases made by each department. There is no match requirement. In 2025, ILETSB placed the following caps on units:

    • Officer-worn Body Cameras - Up to $850 per unit.
    • In-car (Dash) Cameras - Up to $5,750 per unit.

    Grantees may request payment by advance funding, reimbursement, or working capital advance payment from the ILETSB Camera Grant Program.
