With this solicitation, NIJ requests proposals for rigorous research and evaluation projects to examine reentry initiatives that incorporate promising practices, strategies, or programs. NIJ is interested in supporting multi-site, randomized controlled trial (RCT) evaluations of innovative reentry initiatives that:
The primary goal of this solicitation is to support the rigorous examination of innovative reentry initiatives, particularly reentry services, programs, or plans that begin in institutional settings and continue in the community after release. NIJ will give preference in award decisions to proposals for evaluations of an innovative reentry initiative, addressing the areas of interest previously cited, across multiple sites, using randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Proposals primarily intended to purchase equipment, materials, or supplies will not be funded. A budget may include these items if they are necessary to conduct research, development, demonstration, evaluation, or analysis.
Eligible applicants include states, territories, units of local government, federally recognized Indian tribal governments, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, and certain qualified individuals.
The SF-424 and the SF-LLL are to be submitted in Grants.gov by 11:59 p.m. eastern time on February 25, 2021. The full application will be submitted in JustGrants by 11:59 p.m. eastern time on March 11, 2021.
Up to $5,000,000 is available to fund up to four awards. Maximum award is $1,200,000. Cost sharing/matching is not required. Project periods will extend up to 60-months, starting January 1, 2022.
