The Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) Program is one of the grant programs that constitute DHS/FEMA's focus on all-hazards emergency preparedness, including the evolving threats and risks associated with climate change.
The goal is to provide funds to assist state, local, tribal, and territorial emergency management agencies to implement the National Preparedness System (NPS) and to support the National Preparedness Goal (the Goal) of a secure and resilient nation.

The FY21 allocation to the State of Alaska was $3,130,109.
The FY22 allocation to the State of Alaska was $3,569,365
The FY23 allocation to the state of Alaska was $5,289,642

Recipients should consult with their Regional EMPG Program Manager prior to making any investment that does not clearly meet the allowable expense criteria established in the NOFO and the Preparedness Grants Manual.
DHS&EM is to submit an application to FEMA by June 24, 2024. Local applications were due by August 15, 2023. A similar deadline is anticipated in Summer 2024.
The FY24 allocation to the state of Alaska is $3,126,369. Grants are awarded directly to the State. At least 80% of the funds awarded under EMPG must be obligated to local government units. Awards will last for 36 months. Cost sharing/matching of 50% is required.
