    Summary

The Langeloth Foundation's grant-making program is centered on the concepts of health and well-being. The Foundation's purpose is to promote and support effective and creative programs, practices and policies related to healing from illness, accident, physical, social or emotional trauma, and to extend the availability of programs that promote healing to under-served populations.

In an effort to advance areas the Foundation's Board considers to be significant in the health care field, the Foundation has established Funding Priorities.
    • Correctional Health Care: improve the physical and mental health of individuals involved in the criminal justice system. Programs focusing on alternatives to incarceration, detention, and reentry will be considered. While the Foundation does not support prevention projects, it is interested in programs that seek to reduce recidivism.
    • Chronic Violence and Community Health: end the cycle of violence at a community level using a public health approach. Programs focusing on fostering collaboration between agencies, advancing policy reform and systems change, leadership development, and coordinating public and private funding streams will be prioritized. The Foundation does not provide operating support or funding for program services.

    History of Funding

The Jacob and Valeria Langeloth Foundation announced awards of approximately $3.5 Million for its spring 2016 grant-making cycle.

    Additional Information

The Foundation is particularly interested in funding programs that address the health of individuals who, because of barriers to accessing care, experience poor and sub-optimal health, including: those with no or severely limited income, cultural differences, lack of English language skills, lack of health insurance or inadequate health insurance, limited access to health care services, mental illness, substance abuse, homelessness, incarceration, and exposure to trauma.

More specifically, the Foundation favors proposals that seek to promote healing, healthy lives and healthy communities through:
    • Innovative demonstration projects that address a major gap in the field
    • Outreach to communities and populations whose health care needs are not being met
    • Targeted advocacy efforts for vulnerable populations
    • Collaboration among providers and other organizations
The Foundation will not consider proposals for:
    • General operating support
    • Direct service delivery for existing programs
    • Annual or capital campaigns
    • Building or renovation projects
    • Budgetary relief
    • Preventive medicine
    • Projects that focus on children or end-of-life issues
    • Programs outside of the United States
