This program now falls under the Comprehensive Hoosier Highway's Injury Reduction Program and no longer has its own distinct funding or application process. This posting is maintained for historical purposes only.
The Driving Under the Influence Task Force Enforcement (DUITF) grant is the primary impaired driving countermeasure enforcement project in the state. The program is intended to decrease the number of motorists killed and injured on Indiana roadways by impaired drivers.
The DUITF is a year-long effort that targets impaired drivers using a combination of education, sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols. Studies show that most impaired driver collisions occur between 6PM and 6AM. Checkpoints and patrols will be conducted between these hours unless special circumstances warrant some deviation for a specified period of time with LEL approval.
Applications for this award should provide a description distinct to impaired driving enforcement in these areas. It is important to examine trends, specify desired outcomes, and consider how to monitor them over time. Outcome-based initiatives have performance results or performance indicators that include short-term and long-term goals. Applicants should observe trends and use this information to establish annual and five-year targets, and provide a rationalization for identified targets.
